WALDGESCHRATET: Upper Franconian legends come to life at the Theater Hof
When the lights fall on the stage of the Theater Hof studio, a journey begins into a time full of superstition, mysterious figures, and regional legends. WALDGESCHRATET – Legends from Upper Franconia combines musical theater, dialect, and the powerful storytelling tradition of the region into a unique theater evening.
Between Devil's Table and White Woman
Harry Tröger and Ralf Wunschelmeier take old stories from Upper Franconia under their dramaturgical microscope and translate them into contemporary stage language. From questionable card players at the Devil's Table to a Leupoldsgrün witch with an exotic big cat to the White Woman of Saalenstein, a panopticon unfolds between hauntings, black humor, and local memory culture.
Dialect meets musical theater
The production thrives on the interplay of narration, acting, and specially composed music. Franconian and standard German song lyrics, guitar, accordion, vocals, and percussion give the legends a distinctive sound. Thus, a theater atmosphere is created where regional language does not appear museum-like but rather immediate, funny, and surprisingly present.
An ensemble work with its own style
Under the direction of Philipp Brammer, the musicians Harry Tröger and Ralf Wunschelmeier meet the actors of the ensemble. Cornelia Löhr and Benedict Friederich expand the evening as an acting duo; stage and costumes by Aylin Kaip, lighting by Uwe Masch, and dramaturgy by Philipp Brammer shape the atmospheric framework. The musical arrangement is by Michael Falk.
Regional history as a stage experience
WALDGESCHRATET tells not only of witches, water nymphs, and weather interpreters. The evening also looks at the history of the city of Hof on the Saale and shows how closely myth, landscape, and collective memory are intertwined. The audience's reaction emerges from an intriguing contrast: familiar places suddenly appear foreign, while long-past voices become audible again in the studio.
Conclusion: An evening between shivers, music, and Franconian wit
The revival in the studio of the Theater Hof promises a concentrated stage experience with regional character, musical energy, and affectionate individuality. Those who want to experience Upper Franconia from the perspective of its legends will find in WALDGESCHRATET an unusual connection of acting art, dialect, and music. The performance lasts about 85 minutes and takes place without an intermission.
