When the night tells its darkest stories
On November 18, 2026, the gallery house in Hof transforms into a resonant space for thrillers, poetry, prose, and atmospheric music. Under the title Here comes the night, the reading festival THE DARK SIDE opens an evening filled with literary tension, linguistic density, and cinematic soundscapes.
Thrillers between Climate Crisis and Corruption
Lucas Fassnacht reads from his thriller Pipeline, a timely story about climate crisis, power, and a dangerous truth. The plot takes place in the heat of southern France and combines socio-political urgency with the dynamics of a page-turner. Fassnacht, who grew up in Tanzania and now lives in Nuremberg, is also known as a committed literature mediator. In 2022, he received the culture award of the city of Nuremberg, and in 2024 the literature promotion award of the city of Ansbach. His novel Die Innere Führung was on the crime bestseller list of Deutschlandfunk Kultur for months.
Poems as Small Embers
Fabian Lenthe brings poetry to the stage with Streichhölzer, which refuses quick effects. His poems navigate between urban perception, inner density, and the tradition of poètes maudits as well as American underground. Lenthe has published several poetry collections and received the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize for Literature in 2024. His language preserves sparks that do not extinguish immediately but continue to resonate as sustainable poetic tension.
morbidity, Obsession, and the Boundary to Fiction
Sanjina Kashikar reads from Rattenkönig. In the autumn forest, Noel and Aliéna get caught in a whirlpool of love, murder, and obsession, as the boundaries between reality and invention increasingly blur. Kashikar studied Creative Writing and Cultural Journalism at the Literature Institute of the University of Hildesheim, publishes prose and poetry, and is a co-founder of the experimental reading series AnArCHiEN. Her narrative combines psychological tension with a morbid, opulent imagery.
Cinematic Folk as Sound Space
Vincent Babl accompanies the literary voices with Cinematic Folk. He expands his acoustic guitar with synthesizers, loops, echo, and modulation into a physically tangible sound instrument. Between ambient, pop, and world music, cinematic spaces emerge, where melodic clarity and electronic expansiveness meet. The music adds an additional sensuous layer to the reading atmosphere.
Discussion on Crime and Literary Dramaturgy
In the talk, Roland Spranger and Thomas Kastura meet. Spranger was awarded the Friedrich-Glauser Prize for his thriller Kriegsgebiete and featured on the crime bestseller list with Tiefenscharf. Kastura works as an author for Bavarian Broadcasting and also received the Friedrich-Glauser Prize. The conversation enhances the evening with insights into genre, narrative technique, and the literary quality of contemporary crime literature.
A Literary Experience at the Galeriehaus Hof
The event combines reading, poetry, music, and discussion into an enjoyable evening for literature lovers. Admission follows the principle of “pay what you think it’s worth.” This creates an open cultural format that brings together diverse voices of contemporary literature and illuminates the dark sides of human experience from various perspectives.
Those who want to experience literature not only as reading but as an author encounter, voice, and immediate sound event will find an extraordinary evening at Here comes the night. The gallery house will become the stage for a night where tension, language art, and music intertwine.
