Current Programs and Courses of the VHS Hofer Land
The heart of the Volkshochschule Hofer Land is its diverse program, which you can view online in full and book directly. From A for Arabic to Z for drawing, the range covers numerous program areas: languages, professional & digital skills, health with movement and relaxation, culture and design, society and life, as well as special offers for young people. The website consolidates access through several pathways: Through the course search, interested individuals can find specific dates and content; the course compass guides step by step to suitable offers by topic, course location, teaching format (in-person, online, or hybrid), and time of day. Those who prefer to browse can use the digital program booklet and then register with just a few clicks. Seasonal focuses are also clearly recognizable – such as new courses for autumn/winter or short-term additional dates. Particularly in demand are language courses at different levels, professional development courses on digital and IT skills, as well as health offerings from yoga to relaxation. For language enthusiasts, there are – depending on the language – placement aids and counseling, sometimes even an online placement test (e.g., for English). A highlight in the technical-creative area is the MakerSpace: After introductory workshops, participants can use machines and tools such as 3D printers, cutting plotters, laser cutters, plotters, 3D scanners, and drones to prototype ideas and advance their own projects. In addition, there are theme-specific workshops where the acquired know-how is deepened and applied practically. The program is dynamic: In addition to recurring standard courses, the VHS regularly sets impulses with projects, lecture series, or cooperative offers; current examples include events from the Hof Observatory about VHS registration or digital learning offers that can be flexibly integrated into everyday life. This creates an offer that appeals to both beginners and advanced learners – with short paths from information to binding booking.
Registration, Counseling, and Cancellation: How Booking Works
The VHS Hofer Land makes participation particularly easy. The fastest option is online registration directly on the respective course page. Those who prefer personal support can register by phone or visit the office at Ludwigstraße 7 in Hof. After registration, you will receive a confirmation by email with the most important information about the course. If you cannot attend a course, the deadlines and regulations from the general terms and conditions of the VHS apply, which can be viewed on the website. For online or phone bookings, you also have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal; the information on this is also available online. If a course is canceled – for example, due to insufficient participants – the VHS will inform you immediately; already paid fees will be refunded or rebooked upon request. For professional development and German courses, registration and counseling are centrally handled through the website and the mentioned contact channels, so interested individuals receive quick and reliable information. Another service is thematic contact persons: There are responsibilities for foreign languages, for German courses, and for the integration center. Companies and employees also benefit from educational initiators who provide free advice on qualification paths – especially on topics such as digitalization or demographic change. For regular updates, interested individuals can subscribe to the VHS's WhatsApp channel, which consolidates program highlights. Those who want to orient themselves initially will find a clear structure in the program booklet and course search; for specific questions, the team is available by phone. This interplay of digital and personal pathways shortens the route to the right course and creates planning security – from the first idea to binding participation.
Directions and Parking: Ludwigstraße 7 and Parking Deck Graben 2
The central location makes arrival easy: The continuing education center of the VHS Hofer Land is located at Ludwigstraße 7, 95028 Hof. Parking spaces are available for participants in the dedicated parking deck right next to the building; the address of the parking deck is Graben 2, 95028 Hof. This makes finding a parking spot relaxed – especially for courses in the afternoon or evening. There are also designated parking options for the branch at Fabrikzeile 21. The building on Ludwigstraße is equipped for barrier-free access; elevators and low-threshold paths facilitate access to course rooms, halls, and the glass hall. For waiting companions or short work breaks, the building offers free guest Wi-Fi that can be used without hassle. Those arriving by bicycle will find parking options at the building; those using public transport benefit from the inner-city location with short walking distances in the neighborhood. Directions and information are provided on the website; additionally, staff are available by phone if you are planning a specific route or have questions about getting there. Due to the proximity to Theresienstein – a green landmark in Hof – the building also offers a pleasant environment for course breaks, pauses, or short walks. Those attending multiple appointments per week appreciate the reliable parking situation as well as the quick accessibility from the entire city area. Thus, arriving becomes not an organizational act but a manageable part of the course routine – fitting with the flexible course times offered during the day, in the evening, and on weekends.
Rooms, Equipment, and Room Rental in the Continuing Education Center
The building of the VHS Hofer Land combines functional learning spaces with friendly meeting zones. The highlights are the glass hall with up to around 100 seats and the open foyer with a view of Theresienstein – ideal places for breaks and small exhibitions. For events and seminars, several types of rooms are available: the hall (Room 3.12), the multifunctional room (Room 3.19, approx. 100 m²), and various seminar rooms with fixed maximum occupancy, such as 16, 20, 22, or 26 seats – each suitable for workshops, training sessions, or meetings. The technical equipment meets modern requirements: projectors for presentations, interactive whiteboards for collaborative work, and – depending on the room – PC workstations that enable practical learning. The entire building is barrier-free, simplifying access for people with mobility impairments. Organizers benefit from free guest Wi-Fi throughout the building, allowing for hybrid or online-supported formats as well as traditional in-person events. For creative and technically demanding projects, the MakerSpace offers a special feature: After appropriate instruction, 3D printers, cutting plotters, laser cutters, plotters, 3D scanners, and even a drone are available. This allows for the creation of prototypes, models, or small series that can be directly tested in courses or corporate workshops. Room rental is organized centrally by the VHS, which creates individual offers upon request. Interested parties can send an email with details about the institution, contact information, desired room, date, number of people, and technical requirements – the team advises on room selection, equipment, and processes. Conveniently, thanks to the parking deck right next door, material transport can be easily arranged, and the glass hall provides a representative setting for small receptions. The combination of location, infrastructure, and service makes the continuing education center a reliable place for knowledge transfer, team development, and public events.
Integration Courses, German Support, and Projects in the Integration Center
The VHS Hofer Land is committed to supporting immigrants and actors in migration work through its own integration center. The goal is to promote social and professional participation – through language competence, orientation, and encounter. The offerings include integration courses for beginners and advanced learners (usually from level A1 to B1), job-related German courses, initial orientation courses, as well as exams and counseling steps that assist in the naturalization process. In addition, there is a free self-learning center for German, where learners can practice flexibly, supplemented by projects, workshops, and encounter formats such as intercultural choirs, excursions, or discussion rounds. Meeting points are often located at Ludwigstraße 7, sometimes also in branches in the district – short distances and familiar places facilitate participation. For content-related and organizational questions, specific contact persons are available, such as the head of the integration center and the coordination of the German courses. The diversity of offerings is reflected in regularly occurring series where practical relevance is at the forefront – from communication training in everyday life to application workshops following the German model. That the commitment is recognized is shown by the award of the Integration Prize from the government of Upper Franconia to the VHS Hofer Land, which is reported on the website. At the same time, new bridges are being built: Collaboration with clubs, cultural institutions, and municipal partners ensures that integration is not only seen as a language course but as a process of arriving in all areas of life – with music, art, encounter, and orientation in everyday life. Those with questions about access requirements, course start, or exams will find structured information online and can quickly reach the responsible offices by phone. Thus, a complex area becomes a well-accessible offer that accompanies people on their journey.
Partner Offers: Hof Observatory and Music School of the Hof District
The VHS Hofer Land collaborates with partners who shape the educational profile of the region. A special focus is the Hof Observatory: Through the VHS, registration and information for tours, lectures, and practical astronomy are available – for children, teenagers, adults, and groups. In addition to regular dates, special tours for school classes, kindergartens, clubs, and other groups are offered. Content ranges from explaining telescopes to observing planets, stars, and galaxies, weather permitting; the duration is usually about 90 minutes. For inquiries, there is a contact option through the VHS (including Tel. 09281 7145-27) and the website of the observatory. The program also includes formats that specifically introduce children to astronomy – with low-threshold prices and clear processes. Also closely connected is the music school of the Hof district: it is a department of the Volkshochschule Hofer Land located at Ludwigstraße 7. This combines musical education and general adult education under one organizational roof – with short distances between counseling, registration, and implementation. For parents, teenagers, and adults, this means a reliable contact person for musical basic education up to advanced courses, tailored to regional needs. The presence of the music school in the VHS building promotes joint projects and creates synergies in events – from small performances in the glass hall to thematic series that connect culture and education. Together with additional partners from the city and district, such as municipal projects for digital participation, a network emerges where learning opportunities become visible and easily accessible. Those planning their learning year can thus combine courses – for example, a language group at the VHS, a workshop in the MakerSpace, and an event at the observatory – and coordinate everything centrally through the channels of the VHS.

No one here understands the explanations about who has to pay for an integration course. Two people, same nationality, both unemployed, both have working partners and pay almost the same rent – and yet completely different decisions: One person with a partner who earns less has to pay. The other, whose partner earns even more, pays nothing at all. I understand that the language school doesn't make the decision about who has to pay, but they are part of the process and apparently can't explain the situation transparently. How is that supposed to be fair? It seems arbitrary and unjust.

In short. Subject: Spinal gymnastics and fascia training with Ms. Martina Meitner. Starts 12.02.2025. Last week I received a call from the community college. The course instructor thinks that the course is probably not right for me......!!!! Even though she doesn't know my fitness level or flexibility. Very annoying!

Very nicely renovated building with a great light courtyard. I looked at the pictures of a painting course. I was impressed.

An employee of this school treated me very racially and provocatively because I wanted to sign up for the course and was new in this country. Her way of reacting was very ugly.

Nice community college, but I would have liked more and more up-to-date IT technical courses for advanced computer scientists, such as courses on AI, subnetting, VM-WARE, etc. Probably these courses are not in high demand.
