City Tour Hof - Night Watchman Walk

Experience the city of Hof from a truly unique perspective!

In the evening, join a real night watchman in Hof – an unforgettable experience for everyone! You will be transported back in time before the great Hof city fire of 1823, listening to the stories of the Hof night watchman. Whenever the tower clock struck the hour, the night watchman would signal with his horn and announce the hour – singing a different song each time.

The citizens could rest easy knowing the night watchman was keeping an eye on all dangers. But the hour song was not his only task: he had to watch for thieves in the streets, mediate between a fire and the bell ringer of St. Michael's, and light the pitch pans. Only when everything was in order could he extinguish them at midnight and continue his rounds – for the safety of the Hof citizens.

Our Hof night watchman will share with you his duties, the incidents, and the peculiarities of his work in Hof. The meeting point is the main portal of St. Michael's Church, Maxplatz, 95028 Hof.

Price: 8.00 Euro/person. Registration is required. For more information and registration: Tourist Information Hof, Ludwigstr. 24, 95028 Hof, Tel. 09281-815 7777, touristinfo@stadt-hof.de, www.hof.de

Promenade Concert: Kickstarter

Experience an unforgettable promenade concert with Kickstarter!

Kickstarter consists of Mechthild Mühl (congas, percussion, vocals), Claudia Sichert-Gräbner (vocals, percussion), Carola Nüßel (accordion), Hence Bauer-Härtel (vocals, cajon, percussion), Norbert Litwinschuk (guitar, vocals), and Markus Schnabel (e-piano, organ, guitar). They traverse decades of carefully selected rock music. According to them, pure covering isn’t their thing – they prefer to put their own groove on more or less well-known classics.

The rock-bluesy to soulful-funky spectrum, with influences from folk and Americana, ranges from the trip-hop of “Massive Attack” to the gritty post-punk of “The White Stripes,” from Otis Redding's soul ballads that give you chills to classic hits from “Creedence Clearwater,” the “Doobie Brothers,” or the “Rolling Stones.” Listeners can expect plenty of harmony singing, solid rocking, occasionally a heart-wrenching ballad, officially distorted solos, and a passion for improvisation.

Admission is free! Culinary delights are provided by long-time restaurateurs Klaus Schaller and Stefan & Bärbel Scherdel. They also operate the summer restaurant at Theresienstein together every Sunday and holiday this summer. The menu features regional products, Hofer beer, coffee and cake, changing dishes such as stews, vegetarian options, snacks from “Hofer Allerei,” grilled sausages and steaks, roasts and dumplings on Sundays, and everything a beer garden heart desires.

Opening hours are: Sundays: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, holidays: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

City Tour Hof - Romantic Stone

Discover the romantic Theresienstein in Hof!

The Theresienstein stretches its feelers deep into the city center, enticing visitors with green meadows, avenues, and ancient trees, pavilions, and ponds. A gently winding network of paths leads through groves and along the edges of meadows, always under the protection of trees. Along the tranquil paths and avenues, new garden scenes unfold time and again. Charming sightlines open up to sculptures, fountains, and decorative buildings, extending far beyond the park's borders into the surrounding area. Particularly, the panoramic view of the lower Ludwigstraße up to the town hall enchants visitors in the southern part of the facility.

Thanks to continuous expert care, the Theresienstein has not changed much since its inception. Following a so-called park maintenance plan, the typical features of a classic English garden are preserved, and many historical elements have been restored. Gather sensory impressions with our guides in one of Germany's most beautiful parks.

Registration at the Tourist Information is desired at Tel. 09281/815-7777 or touristinfo@stadt-hof.de.

City Tour Hof - Executioner Tour

Do you have a strong stomach? Join Hof's executioner Master Franz Schmidt for thrilling and unforgettable moments.

A historically grounded and vibrant journey through superstition, justice, and healing. Medieval history comes alive as the executioner shares tales of his unusual craft: where once the pyres burned, where torturous interrogations took place, where wrongdoers stood in the stocks, and where the imperial blood court convened – who better to tell these stories than one who was commanded by the law to carry out death and corporal punishments and even torture?

As an executioner, he was also a brothel keeper and dog fighter, cleaning sewers or disposing of the bodies of dead people and animal carcasses. Often, he had medical knowledge and acted as a healer. The profession of executioner was considered 'dishonorable'; he lived in isolation and was shunned by the people.

Today, Master Franz Schmidt can be found against a historical backdrop, taking you on his tour. The meeting point is the Town Hall Fountain, Klosterstr. 1, 95028 Hof.

Price: 8.00 Euro/person

This tour is not suitable for sensitive individuals and youths under 14 years! Registration at the Tourist Information is required.

For more information: Tourist Information Hof, Ludwigstr. 24, 95028 Hof, Tel 09281/815-7777, touristinfo@stadt-hof.de, www.hof.de

HofHaltig – The Hof Autumn Market

Experience the Hof Autumn Market under the motto “HofHaltig”!

Under the name “HofHaltig,” the market presents itself in a new light. The goal is to transform the Hof city center into a meeting point for regional traders, manufacturers, creators, and initiatives to inform and raise awareness about sustainability. At “HofHaltig,” we focus not only on offering consumer goods but also on introducing visitors to sustainable living options.

HofHaltig, a blend of the name of the city Hof and the word sustainable, took place for the first time in 2022. The concept was well received: The Hof Autumn Market showcased its new sustainable identity last year and is sure to attract many visitors to the Hof city center again this year. HofHaltig will present regional products and sustainably produced goods on Saturday, September 27, and Sunday, September 28, and will also provide a platform for services and information booths on sustainability and climate protection.

At “HofHaltig,” not only consumer goods are offered, but visitors are also introduced to sustainable living options. One of the region's most popular themed markets! No wonder: special pedestrian areas have been expanded for foot traffic. While strolling through the sunny autumn Hof city center, visitors can look forward to a variety of market stalls and vendors.

The keywords environmental and climate protection, ecological footprint, regionality, and sustainability are not only widely discussed but are now tangible and experiential. Ecological garden design, ideas for reuse, as well as re- and up-cycling will also be addressed. Of course, local retail remains a key part of the market weekend: On Sunday, September 28, there will be a shopping Sunday in the Hof city center.
